Review: Sinfully Magnetic Nail Polish

When I first seen magnetic nail polish popping up in YouTube videos and on blogs I thought, 'That is one of the coolest things I've ever seen, must try!' I've tried two different brands now, with Sinfully Magnetic by Sinful Colors being the most recent. Sinfully Magnetic comes in eight shades and is sold exclusively at Rite Aid and retails for $4.99. I picked up this product  in Captivate me.

The first thing I like about this product is the color of the polish, it is a beautiful plum color with flecks of glitter that are multiple colors. The second thing that I like is the magnet that comes with it, just because the magnet is made in a way that allows you to be able to rest it on your finger with out touching the polish. I have shaky hands so this is great for me.

Some things that I noticed when using this product is you have to be extra careful not to move the magnet once you have it over your nail, because if you do it will totally ruin the effect. I also noticed that once the polish was dry it felt rough and looked like it had bubbles in it, which I know will happen if you shake the bottle up too much before you use it, but in this case I did not shake it all before I used it. One finally thing that I noticed was that when you apply a topcoat it seems to make the 'lines', that were formed by the magnet, become smudged to the point where you can't really make out the design.

I am still on the fence about this product, because sometimes when I use it, it looks okay and other times it just looks a hot mess. I'm finding that magnetic polishes are challenging for me to work with. I do recommend that if you use any type of magnetic polish that you follow the instructions to the letter. The instructions seem to differ with each brand.

Below I have some swatches of the Sinfully Magnetic polish as well as a couple of swatches of the other magnetic polish I've tried, which is Magnetique Magnetic nail polish, also available at Rite Aid for $4.99. I took pictures of just the polish alone, then also with a top coat. I used the magnet that came with the Magnetique polish on some of the swatches and it seemed to work better than the magnet that came with the Sinfully Magnetic polish.

Finally thoughts on this are, it seems like I had better luck using the magnet that came with the other brand. It created, in my opinion, more defined lines and did not smudge once I applied my top coat.

Have you tried a magnetic polish? Did it work well for you? What are some tips that you have for using magnetic polish?

Polish only using Sinfully Magnetic magnet
After applying top coat. See how much it changed the design?
 A look at the Magnet

First swatch is 2 coats of Sinfully Magnetic ( I hit it with the magnet), second is one coat of Sinfully Magnetic and third is two coats of Magnetique Polish
These are after I applied the top coat. When using the magnet that came with the Magnetique the design did not seem to smudge after applying a top coat.
