Tutorial: Water Marble

Sponsored | Bought Myself | Press Sample | Nothing to Disclose | Giveaway Winnings

Today's post is a bit different than any other post I have done, it's a video tutorial on how I do my water marble manicures. I hope that you will find this video helpful :)

So let's get into how I do my water marble by watching this video. I will also add some tips below the video that I may not have covered in it.

Instead of using tape you can put Vaseline around your fingers and all you have to do is wipe the Vaseline away with a tissue or cotton ball and any polish that may have gotten on it will wipe right away. I do not use the Vaseline method because I feel it is too messy.

Not all polishes will work for a water marble, some polishes will not spread out across the water. Once you find a polish that works well make a note of it so you will know the ones that will work for sure.

Water marbling for me was a lot of trial and error, the first time I did it I thought it looked horrible. The more you do it the better you will get, so don't give up :)

Allow your polish to dry fully before you put on your top coat or else your design may smear.

It is a messy and tedious process, but so worth it. It usually takes me about an hour to do a water marble on myself.

Sometimes when you go to draw you lines with the toothpick all the polish may stick to the toothpick and mess up the work you had done, if this happens just finish getting the polish out of the cup and start again.

I have found that tap water does not work well for me when doing marbles, so I stick to bottled water.

Sometimes I will also paint my nails one of the colors that I am using before I start my marble, but not always. I feel like this is a personal choice depending on who you ask :)

Most importantly, just have fun with it!

I hope that this was helpful and if you have never done a marble before and decide to try one after watching this I would love to see it! You can post a link to it in the comments, email it to me or post it on my Facebook page. If you have any questions feel free to leave them in the comments too, and I'll do my best to answer them the best I can.

  2. omg I love water marble. It aggravates me a bit how intimidated people get if it doesn't work the first time. :p Need to pick up more tape so I can do one for my birthday. Awesome video!! Love the background music.

    1. I agree, if I gave up on nail techniques that did not work for me on the first try, I would never paint my nails LOL. I'm glad you love the background music I had a hard time finding something that was just music and no words :)

  3. Amy, thank you so much for doing the video. It is much clearer, though I'm still not sure about how to get my finger in the polish: do you angle it so it's horizontal or do you go straight down into the polish/water? Also, I'm not sure about clearing away the polish after my nail nail is in the polish but I guess I will try to get it on the cotton swab. You did an amazing job with the video!

    1. You are welcome Allison! That is one of the hardest parts to show, you start off putting it in horizontal then once you have it in the water, just straighten you finger out. As for clearing away the polish, once you stick you nail in the polish that touches you nail will stick to it, but the rest of the 'bullseye' that does not touch your nail is left floating in the water and if you don't use a toothpick to get it out before you lift your finger, the whole 'bullseye' will end up clinging to your finger and messing it up. I think once you try it out for yourself it will make better since :) Glad I was able to help you out a little.
