Review: NYC Metro Quartet Eye Shadow

A few days ago I posted about my mini haul from the Dollar Tree, I have had some time to play around with the NYC Metro Quartet Eye Shadow, in the shade Riverside Park, that I purchased and wanted to share my thoughts on it.

I looked this product up on the NYC website and they describe this quad of three beautiful green shades and one cream colored highlight shade as a quad that will 'help you achieve that smoldering, sultry, smokey look'. Claims it has ultra silky texture, intense color rich shades, long lasting, goes on smoothly and evenly and that it's fragrance free.

All of the shades in this quad do have a slight hint of shimmer, but it does not appear to be all that noticeable once you have it on your eyes. The shadows are easy to work with and are very blend-able  I felt that these shadows did have a silky texture to them and they were not powdery or chalky. The colors are also build-able  which is good because the lightest green shade is not all that pigmented when you put it on your eye. I think that you definitely need a primer when using these shadows to get the best color payoff. I've worn these shadows a few times since I purchased them and have not had a problem with them creasing and they do seem to be long lasting.

I like that it was super affordable costing only $1 at the Dollar Tree, but it's also a shade that is discontinued from the NYC core line. The Metro Quartets are still available from NYC, but in different shades, and retail for $3.99.

Have you tried any of the NYC Metro Quartets or any of their other shadows? What did you think about them?

Hopefully you can tell in this photo that primer is a plus when using these shadows.

Review: NYC IndividualEyes Custom Compact

I received a NYC IndividualEyes Custom Compact from Influenster to try out. It is an all-in-one compact, complete with a primer, illuminator and four shadows. The color I got was Dark Shadows which is a limited edition compact and features four colors, white, silver, gray and black. I have to say that the only thing that I liked from this compact was the highlighter shade.

The primer is very cream and applies very easily, however it is not the greatest. I used this primer with the shadows from this compact and with other shadows, I was able to make it through most of the day before my shadows began to crease and wear off. On most days, for me this would be okay, but if I had to be out and about all day I would feel the need to touch up my shadows. The primer is good for enhancing the colors of the shadows though.

The illuminator is also very creamy, but doesn't really do much for me. When I swatched it on my hand, I thought Wow, this looks really good, but the effect did not look the same on my eye.

The shadows had pretty good pigmentation, but to me were a bit to chalky. I was really surprised to find that the dark of the crease shades as also the least pigmented. The lighter shades were the most appealing to me, but that may also be because I don't wear dark shades of shadows. I felt like the dark two shades were hard to blend out.

Another thing that I do not like about this compact is that the 'dust' from the shadows tend to end up in the primer and the illuminator.
While I think the concept of the NYC IndividualEyes Custom Compact is a great one, it was a fail for me. I would however like to try this in another shade and see if the shadows are chalky or not and see if they are easier to blend.

Have you tried a NYC Individual Eyes Custom Compact? What did you think about it?

This week my Wish List items are more in my price range and are items that I will be searching for in the stores! All 3 items are from NYC (New York Color) I absolutely love every singe product of theirs I have ever tried.

First up on my wish list is an item I will probably never get my hands on because it was from their Spring Limited edition City Sweets collection, and it is the City Duet Eyeshadow in Brighton Peach. I have not tried any of their eyeshadows,
